At ICF, we understand that our prosperity in agribusiness is closely intertwined with the health of our natural environment. As an indigenous company, we are privileged, not only as local entrepreneurs but also as the custodians of our motherland’s ecology.
In recognition of this duty, we have embarked on a commitment to promoting biodiversity by growing and conserving a variety of native plant species. Our diverse portfolio of trees includes Mukima (Grevillea robusta), Mukui (Newtonia buchananii), Meru oak (Vitex keniensis), Muringa (Cordia africana), Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica), Raffia palm (Raphia farinifera), Mutuntu (Croton microstachyus), Muthatha (Sapium ellipiticum), Mukwego (Bridelia micrantha), Sausage tree (Kigelia africana), African tulip (Spathodea campanulata), and Mutungugu (Commiphora eminii).
Besides this, we have continued to enrich our plant biodiversity by integrating local species of beneficial herbs and shrubs into our farms. Such include Tithonia (Tithonia diversifolia), Lantana (Lantana camara), Tephrosia (Tephrosia vogelli), Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium), Calliandra (Calliandra surinamensis), and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). These plants offer us numerous benefits such as attracting and sustaining healthy bee colonies in our apiaries, providing organic pest control, natural biofertiliser, erosion control, excellent mulch and compost manure for soil enrichment, and high-quality fodder supplement for our goats.
Collectively, these practices at ICF contribute significantly to sustainable farming and demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship. If you are interested in sustainable farming or environmental preservation, either as an individual or a group, we invite you to visit us or contact us to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership in managing and preserving our biodiversity for posterity.
